Music Moments in Groove.Guru History: Bathory – Blood Fire Death

Bathory was an extreme metal band formed in Vällingby, Sweden, in 1983 named for Hungarian countess Elizabeth Báthory. (Wikipedia. 10/18/16)

You might not recognize this album right away but “Blood. Fire, Death” is Bathory’s 4th studio album and the bookend for what has become known as “the blueprint for Scandinavian Black Metal.” It’s dark, raw, distorted and everything you could want out of a classic trash release of the time. But it explores more dynamics instruments and lyrical content than their former releases which rendered a unique, more evolved sound. [Music critic Eduardo Rivadavia of AllMusic describes this ‘epic’ style as “possibly the first true example” of Viking metal. (Wikipedia. 10/18/16)]
